Summary

This study investigates the effects of several components of public expenditure on the shadow economy in Malaysia. The components of government expenditures included in this study are education, health, military, agriculture and rural development, trade and industry, public utilities, housing, social and community services, and general administration. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to examine the relationship between the shadow economy and the components of public expenditures in Malaysia.
